Nature of the city

I live in New York City. Homeschooling the way we do, we follow Charlotte Mason's advice to draw in nature journals. Spending time outdoors and sketching nature is part of our regular routine.

My nature drawing from last week,
at the Queens Botanical Garden.

But, I live in the city of cities and this place is essentially defined by its streets scenes.

My daughter drawing buildings in lower Manhattan.
I visit Urban Sketchers almost every day, and I feel happy looking at what people find to sketch in urban places all around the world.

My husband drawing river traffic at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

I don't know why it's taken me so long to consider sketching the city as part of journaling. My family caught on to that idea much earlier than I did, as is usually the case, and have been busy drawing the city  while I look for dandelions.

  4. Hi Jeanne, Pam and Grace'n'Chaos!
Are you guys drawing anything lately? I'll have to pop over to your blogs to see what you're up to. My autumn schedule is a bit too hectic, and I haven't been blog hopping as much as I'd like.

  5. I haven't been drawing lately, but did get it all out and ready. Lost my special kneaded eraser, so that upsets things a bit. But that sewing/art/draw and paint corner is so inviting. It calls to me! Soon I will get back to it. It's so enjoyable.
