Purim

My church is on the same block as two synagogues, and last Sunday when I walked to church, I saw lots and lots of kids on the sidewalks wearing fun costumes. Last Sunday was the Jewish holiday Purim, and it's a holiday when the kids get to dress up.

I learned about Purim when I read All-of-a-Kind Family series of books to my daughter several years ago. Now that I know about the holiday, I notice the celebrations and costumes in the neighborhood every year. I wonder how in the world I missed them before!

The All-of-a-Kind Family story is about a Jewish family on the Lower East Side of New York City, set in the early 1900s. In the first book of the series, the author writes about the family celebrating Purim.

If you haven't read these books with your kids, please give them a try. I'm sure you'll be as delighted by the stories as we were.

By the way, the Purim holiday comes from the events told in the Book of Esther.

Thanks for the nice words about the blog. I'm having fun with it, and I'm having fun seeing how many other homeschoolers are blogging about Charlotte Mason. I love reading what other people write.
