Heather and an introduction

There's a garden in my neighborhood with heather growing in it, and when I walk through the garden, I imagine that Ambleside landscape might look something like this view.

Ambleside was Charlotte Mason's school in England, and Charlotte Mason was an educator who lived in the late 1800s-early 1900s. I'm a homeschooler who follows Charlotte Mason's methods of learning, for the most part anyway. She lived in the beautiful lake district of England, and I live along a river in the 14th most populated city in the world.

NYC is where I'm raising my children, and yet I feel a kinship to a woman who never had children herself, who lived in the countryside across the ocean, and who died before my parents were born.

This blog is about my connection to Charlotte Mason, and for those of you who already know about Charlotte, you know how important connections are.

  1. Hi and welcome to the Charlotte Mason neighborhood in the blogosphere :))
Isn't it amazing how different women in different places all relate to this amazing woman?
    See you around.

  2. Thanks for the welcome, Silvia. It is great to connect with other homeschoolers through CM.

  3. I think it is great too! I am tickled to meet someone who is doing CM in New York! I LOVE visiting there! My family has fallen in love with the City! We visit as much as we can! We live in PA. We spent some of our Christmas there until the big storm hit! It was a choice of leaving to go home safely, or being stuck in a hotel in Staten Is.---We chose home, sadly.
Can't wait to go back again soon!
    Blessings!

  4. I'm glad you got home safely - that storm was crazy. We loved all the snow this year as the kids got to sled so much more often than they usually do.
It's nice to hear you like NYC. I like it too, though I never expected to end up here.
